Sailing History 18 Footer the JJ Giltinan Trophy
The Australian James Joseph Giltinan was a sports promoter from the early days. After having launched the Australian Rugby Championship, he initiated professionalism in sailing, and donated a perpetual recognition price: the JJ Giltinan Trophy. The annual regatta sailed for the first time in 1938 on Sydney Harbour on 18-Foot Skiffs had a unique concept with betting shops and spectator boats, becoming an integral part of the Australian sports program. 'Taree' (see photo) was the first winner. -----This event is considered the unofficial World Championship the 18-Footer Class, and as in previous years, we followed the competition this March livestream on our website. ----- A report.
