World Sailing Annual Conference - Hamilton BER - Final report
The World Sailing Annual Meeting on the Bermudas was concluded last Sunday with the Annual General Assembly, attended by representatives from 59 of the 147 Member National Authorities, the stakeholders of the International Sailing Federation. The Council decisions made on Friday and Saturday were ratified, the composition of the Election Committee for the 2020 General Assembly was confirmed and a decision re World Sailing's governance was made. ------ The official report of World Sailing for details. ----- Concerning the 2024 Olympic Regatta, the 10 events are now final, subject to approval by the IOC. The Windsurfing equipment will be the iFoil replacing the RS:X, inspite of a last-moment intervention of China and Israel. The submission of the Finn Class to reinstate the Finn had no chance. Here the comment of the Finn Class. ----- Of importance for national federations is the decision to include the Kiteboarders in the World Sailing Youth Championships, in line with the new Olympic program. ----- The Governance proposal however, that would eliminate the organization's broad-based, globally-representative Council, and concentrate virtually all the decision-making power in a nine-member, self-perpetutating Board of Directors led by the President, was put on halt. In order for it to pass, a majority of 75% was required. 38 members voted in favour with 21 against. This resulted in 64.4% in favour so it was not passed. It will be reconsidered at an Extraordinary General Assembly next year May(?)
