IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Multi 50 Transat Jacques Vabre Day 2, the Swiss
Opting for the preferred western route, the Open 60 favorite 'Charal' with Jérémy Béyou FRA/Christopher Pratt GBR rushed on rank one at speeds exceeding 20kn, but the persuers are not far behind. Samantha Davies GBR/Paul Meihlat FRA on rank 2 were 5nm back this morning UTC, closely followed by Charlie Dalin/Yann Eliès FRA and Charlie Enright USA/Pascal Bidégorry FRA neck and neck. Alan Roura SUI/Sébastien Audigane FRA are sailing midfleet on rank 16 with a 60nm backlog. ----- An unexpected incident changed the situation on top of the Class 40, as the leading Luke Berry GBR/Tanguy Le Turquois FRA lost the mast in moderate wind conditions. Fabien Delahaye FRA/Sam Goodchild GBR inherited the first place with Aymeric Chappellier/Pierre Leboucher FRA not far back. Louis Duc/Aurélien Ducroz FRA on rank 3 are already 16nm behind. Valentin Gautier/Simon Koster SUI remain on the excellent 5th place with 22nm backlog. To be noted, that the strength of their round-bow scow-type boat will be evident in rear-wind and reaching conditions. At present, the fleet is sailing upwind across the Bay of Biscay. ----- The three Multi-50-Trimarans have passed Cape Finisterre with Thibault Vauchel-Camus/Fréderic Duthil FRA already 50nm ahead. ----- The race tracker, the news (in English, French and Portugese) and the onboard videos.
