RORC Caribbean 600 Antigua ANT, the Swiss
88 yachts - a record-size fleet - started off Antigua yesterday to the Carribean600 long-distance race. The duel of the two Super-Maxis was decided shortly after the start when the 100-Foot-Maxi 'CQS' was forced to return back to the harbour with technical problems and the 88-Foot-Maxi 'Rambler' sailed away unchallenged. Her advantage on the Volvo70 'Warrior' was 18nm this morning UTC. On rank 3 followed the Ker56 'Varuna'. Roughly 60nm back were the brothers Matthias and Othmar Müller von Blumencron GER/SUI on their Class 40 'Red'. Othmar was the Swiss Finn Diploma Olympian 1992 in Barcelona.
