Update Noon : Olympic Worldcup 17/18 - Act 1 - Gamagori JPN - Day 6

Saturday, October 21, 2017
The Olympic Classes Worldcup event in Gamagori JPN continued this morning UTC with the Medal Races. Only three of the four planned heats could be completed but the unconstant light wind delayed the starts all over again.
No changes on the podium occurred after the three Medal Races of the 49ers, but Dylan Fletcher/Stuart Bithell GBR were about to loose against James Peters/Fynn Sterritt GBR who were finally caught by the anchor line of the committee boat on the finish line. Lukasz Przybytek/Pawel Kolodsinski POL had the 3rd place clearly under control.
In the 49ersFX, the Medal Races completely change the podium. The leading French Lili Sebesi/Albane Dubois FRA had major difficulties to make the best tactical decisions in the prevailing very light breeze, finished on the ranks 6, 7 and 9), and dropped on the 6th place overall ... with only 4 points on the winners. Victoria Travaschio/Maria Branz ARG finished first one point ahead of Tanja Frank/Lorena Abicht AUT 2nd and at equal points Sayoko Harada/Sera Nagamatsu JPN on 3rd.
In the RS:X women windsurfers, Hei Man Chan HKG moved up from 4th to first in front of Fujiko Onishi JPN 2nd and Xianting Huang CHN 3rd.
The Medal Race of the RS:X men windsurfers has been postponed on tomorrow. Pawel Tarnowski POL leads one point ahead of Mengfang Gao CHN and 3 points ahead of Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI and Makoto Tamizawa JPN.
All other classes sailed one or two races and have one or two more races scheduled for tomorrow. The Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS extended their lead in the 470 men on 15 points. Isozaki/Yakatanagi JPN and Luke Patience/Chris Grube GBR are now the first challengers. In the 470 women, Agniszka Przybytek/Irmina Mrozek POL extended their lead on the 2nd Ai Kondo/Miho Joshioka JPN to 9 points. Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI lost lost one place and are now solid 3rd one point behind 2nd and 8 pts ahead of 4th.
In the Lasers Standard, Sam Meech NZL is the new leader 3 points ahead of the World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP, ready to attack for victory. Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR on the 3rd place is 26 points behind. In the Lasers Radial, the leader Anne-Marie Rindom DEN sailed their worst result (rank 26) in the first race of the day and dropped on rank 3. New on top is now Vasileia Karachaliou GRE 7 points ahead of Emma Plaeschart BEL on 2nd.
One race in the Lasers Standard and two races in the Lasers Radial are on the program tomorrow, but the meteo announces the approach of a typhoon with wind speeds of over 200 kmh and big waves and their might be a premature end of the Worldcup event. Wait and see ...
