IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Day 57
Last night UTC, Thomas Ruyant FRA ('LinkedOut') and Damien Séguin FRA (Groupe Apicil) rounded Cape Horn in 3rd and 4th place. The duo, 45 miles apart, managed to pull away 230nm from the chasing peloton. Already sailing at the height of the Falkland Islands, leader Yannick Bestaven FRA ('Maître Coq') is 145nm ahead of Charlie Dalin FRA ('Apivia'). The chasing pack led by Benjamin Dutreux FRA (OMIA), 618nm behind, remains close together. 685nm back follows Boris Herrmann GER ('SeaExplorer') in 8th. Isabelle Joschke FRA/GER ('MACSF') has dropped to 10th, 734 miles behind. ----- 'Alan Roura SUI ('La Fabrique') had to cede his 15th place to Pip Hare GBR ('Medallia') after the technical problems with the keel (he will not be able to use his swing keel for the rest of the race). At the very end of the field, Sébastien Destremau FRA ('Merci') is creeping towards Australia with a damaged steering system, and he will probably have to abandon the race. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
