IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Day 19
The wide-spread St-Helena anticyclone with its light winds continues to dominate the race. Meanwhile, the leading Charlie Dalin FRA' (Apivia', Foiler) has reached the Roaring Forties, but the iceberg exclusion zone forces him to turn East today with the risk of being slowed down further. Thomas Ruyant FRA ('LinkedOut', Foiler) with his damaged Open60 has lost a lot of ground yesterday, but kept his 2nd place with a 202nm backlog. Jean Le Cam FRA ('Yes we Cam', Non-Foiler) continues to keep up excellently and was the fastest of the top trio this morning UTC 372nm behind. The first chasing group with Yannick Bestaven FRA ('Maitre Coq', Foiler), Kmorning evin Escoffier ('PRB', Foiler), Boris Herrmann GER ('SeaExplorer', Foiler) and Sébastien Simon FRA ('Arkea', Foiler) are 135nm and more behind. Damien Séguin FRA ('Groupe Apicil', Non Foiler) overtook Alex Thomson GBR ('Hugo Boss', Foiler) during the past night. Alan Roura SUI, still sailing in 18th place, was able to reduce his gap by more than 100nm to 933nm. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
