Olympic Classes Trofeo Princesa Sofia Palma ESP Day 1 the Swiss
Mixed feelings for the Swiss team after the difficult light-wind races on the first day of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia on Mallorca. However, some young development sailors performed surprisingly well.
The best-ranked junior is Rosine Baudet SUI as 14th after two races in the Lasers Radial in her first race on Palma Bay. Maud Jayet SUI, finishing 3rd and ... 46th is on the 44th interim's rank. With the day ranks 13 and 4 in his Laser Standard group, Eliot Merceron SUI had a good first day as well. As 78th overall among the 198 participants, the newcomer Gauthier Verhulst SUI is the best of the three Swiss juniors and stays in the Silverfleet part of the rankings for the moment.
Well-positioned are the young Kilian Wagen/Grégoire Siegwart SUI as 17th in the 470 men. Bad luck however for Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI in the 470 women. The excellent 2nd place in race one was lost with a premature start disqualification, and the modest 18th place in race 2 kept them down on 33rd overall.
Nils Theuninck SUI started the Trofeo with an excellent 4th race rank in his group. With the 18th in the 2nd race, he stay on the 21st place overall.
Not racing in the slackening wind of the late afternoon were the 49ers, among them Sébastien Schneiter/Lucien Cujean SUI as most experienced Swiss team, and Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI in the RS:X men windsurfers.
