With a 18-23 kn wind, the opening day at the Melges 20 World Championship in Newport RI was quite sporty. Finishing 1/2/2, Drew Freides USA has taken the overall lead 5 pts ahead of James Wilson USA. The best non-USA skipper was Igor Rytov RUS on rank 6 among the 38 teams from 10 nations.
